Armenia expects Iran to play an active role in ''Crossroads of Peace'' project- Ambassador
YEREVAN, October 21. /ARKA/. Armenia anticipates that Iran will actively participate in the implementation of the regional communications project "Crossroads of Peace," proposed by the Armenian government. This was stated by Armenian Ambassador to Iran Arsen Avakyan in an interview with the Iranian news agency "ISNA."
"Crossroads of Peace" is the most effective mechanism for unblocking the region's economic infrastructure. It involves activating and developing regional communications through the repair, construction, and operation of roads, railways, pipelines, cables, and power lines," Avakyan stated.
He emphasized that this project is also significant for Armenia because its implementation will enable the establishment of railway connections with the friendly Islamic Republic of Iran. Avakyan noted that several countries, including Iran, have officially expressed support for "Crossroads of Peace" project.
About the "Crossroads of Peace" Project
The Armenian regional communications project "Crossroads of Peace" was presented by the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in November 2023 at the "Silk Road" forum in Tbilisi. The key idea of the project is to launch and develop transportation communications between Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran through the utilization of roads, railways, cables, pipelines, and power lines.
This will create a short and efficient route between the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as a route from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea. According to Armenia's position, all infrastructures operate under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through whose territories they pass; each country implements border and customs control on its territory and ensures the safety of the movement of goods, vehicles, and people along these routes. -0-
