YEREVAN, May 21. /ARKA/. The issue of Armenia's withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) cannot be discussed until Armenia itself has submitted such a request and expressed its desire to do so. This is how Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented to Aysor.am on Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk's statement that Armenia faces a choice between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the EU.

"The issue of Armenia's withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) cannot be discussed until Armenia has submitted such a request and expressed its desire, and we have not expressed such a desire," Mirzoyan said.

When asked when Armenia would make a decision, the minister replied: "When the need to discuss the issue arises. I cannot give any timeframe; such an issue is not on our agenda today."

Mirzoyan called the possibility of freezing Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) until Yerevan decides on its future course of action impossible. "This cannot happen. This is an organization where decisions are made by consensus votes of Armenia. How can this be?" the Foreign Minister said.

Earlier, Overchuk stated that at some point, Armenia's leadership "will have to choose between the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), if it decides to do so." He reiterated that membership in the EAEU and the EU is incompatible.
