Armenian Deputy Prime Minister not concerned that Azerbaijan may delay border delimitation process
YEREVAN, 21 October. /ARKA/. Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said today that he had no concerns that Azerbaijan may not sign the regulations on the work of Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions on state border delimitation or delay the delimitation process.
He said he believed the process was proceeding synchronously, but added that he did not know at what stage the process in Azerbaijan was at.
‘But logic suggests that the processes should be synchronous,’ he told reporters ahead of a meeting of the parliamentary committee on foreign relations."
Armenia's Foreign Ministry said on 30 August that Yerevan and Baku had signed regulations on the joint activities of commissions on delimitation and demarcation of the state border. The regulations were adopted by the Armenian government at a session on 4 September. On 26 September, the Armenian Constitutional Court ruled that the regulations were in line with the Armenian Constitution.
Speaking later at the meeting of the committee Mher Grigoryan refused to specify whether Azerbaijan had threatened Armenia with war if the border in Tavush region were not demarcated in early spring. During the discussion on the regulations, Grigoryan was reminded that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had told residents of Tavush that if that process was not carried out, Azerbaijan would initiate a new war.
The Deputy Prime Minister was asked today to clarify whether there were indeed threats from Azerbaijan to start a war.
‘Regarding the threats or the content of our discussions, I cannot disclose more than what was stated in the official press releases," Grigoryan said. -0-
