YEREVAN, May 8. /ARKA/. Armenian political parties’ silence after this past Sunday’s voting in the parliamentary elections shows bargaining among them, Alexander Iskandaryan, a political analyst and the director of the Caucasus Institute, said today at a news conference.
“Everything will be clear very soon,” he said.
The political analyst found it difficult to say whether Prosperous Armenia would become a member of a new ruling coalition or not. He only said that more interesting is whether this membership will be offered to the party.
Iskandaryan thinks that more than one coalition will be shaped in the National Assembly.
He also said that no strong political unrest will trouble the country after these elections.
There will be rallies, and parties will call the elections fraudulent, but this will have no considerable impact on political situation.
“I don’t rule out also another scenario – all the parties will take their mandates,” he said. “This means they recognize the results of elections, and this is an unprecedented fact in Armenia.”
According to the central electoral commission’s preliminary report, five parties and one bloc won seats in the National Assembly – the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (44.05%), Prosperous Armenia (30.20%), the opposition Armenian National Congress bloc (7.10%), Zharangutiun (5.79%), Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutiun (5.73%) and Orinats Yerkir (5.49%) -0-
