Authorities must resign: opposition MP on shelling of Armenia by Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, April 23. /ARKA/. In response to Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenian settlements, Hayk Mamijanyan, the leader of the opposition faction "I Have the Honor," has called for a resignation of the current authorities. He stated, “If certain leaders have been promising peace for five years, and the outcome is this dire, resignation is the only option. Why are we surprised? This is the so-called peace created by Prime Minister Pashinyan. Everything is painfully clear. What we are experiencing is a nightmare we warned about.”
During a briefing on Wednesday, he pointed out that the Defense Ministry tends to release statements about the shelling only after media reports come out. He urged those misled by false promises of peace to recognize the consequences of their beliefs and reconsider their stance. Mamijanyan emphasized that Azerbaijan's ambitions remain unchanged.
“They will continue to push if they realize the other side is willing to compromise everything for a worthless agreement,” he remarked, foreseeing the emergence of new, even more unreasonable demands. He expressed his belief that the Armenian leadership is ready to make concessions without any limits solely to cling to their power.
On March 13, the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that an agreement had been reached on the draft Treaty titled "On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan," marking the conclusion of negotiations for its endorsement. Yerevan has declared that the document is ready for signing and is prepared to begin discussions with Baku regarding the timing and location of the signing ceremony.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed that the current draft of the peace treaty reflects a series of mutual concessions that Armenia finds acceptable. He emphasized that the two pivotal points which had previously caused a stalemate—the prohibition of third-country military forces along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and the mutual withdrawal of legal claims filed in international jurisdictions—have now been resolved through compromise. Azerbaijani President also acknowledged these two contentious issues earlier.
However, as a condition for finalizing the peace treaty, Baku has presented several new demands to Yerevan, including calls for constitutional reforms in Armenia and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.
