YEREVAN, September 12. /ARKA/. Eduard Sharmazanov, a deputy chairman of the Armenian parliament from the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia of ex-president Serzh Sargsyan, accused today Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of sowing ‘political terror.’
Speaking at a rally in Yerevan on Tuesday night in an administrative district in Yerevan Pashinyan said he had ordered the National Security Service and the police to find those who were behind an illegal wiretapping of a telephone conversation between the director of the National Security Service and the chief of the Special Investigative Service within the shortest possible period of time and hold them accountable in the strictest terms.
In the audio recording leaked to the media and was posted online by several news websites on Tuesday.
the director of the National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan and the head of the Special Investigative Service Sasun Khachatryan discussed the criminal cases launched against former president Robert Kocharyan and former deputy defense minister Yuri Khachaturov, accused of ‘overthrowing constitutional order’ in the 2008 post election violence.
Pashinyan promised his supporters that the "special services" and illegally armed groups run by local oligarchs will be discovered and destroyed.
Speaking to reporters today Sharmazanov said the news about the illegal wiretapping of the chiefs of the special services is a serious concern, and he expected Pashinyan to provide a clear assessment of it and the content of the conversation, which did not happen.
Sharmazanov denounced the wiretapping adding that the heads of such structures must not be so careless when talking on phone. But he recalled that even the German Chancellor is being wiretapped, however, according to Sharmazanov, Pashinyan is manipulating the facts: announcing the inadmissibility of wiretapping, he said nothing about actual interference in the work of law enforcement agencies and judicial structures as evidence d by the wiretapped conversation.
"I am very sorry that Pashinyan speaks about the wiretapping, but doers not address the concern that justice is being administered by phone calls, which proves the fact of political persecution,’ Sharmazanov said. --0--
