YEREVAN, October 4. /ARKA/. Former deputy director of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) Feliks Tsolakyan agreed to become Minister of Emergency Situations, reports in the Armenian media say.
On October 2, after the parliament passed a bill preventing the dissolution of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told his supporters who gathered in front of the parliament building that he would sack government ministers and provincial governors affiliated with the Prosperous Armenia and ARF/ Dashnaktsutyun parties, which backed the controversial bill designed by the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) ex-president Serzh Sargsyan.
According to mass media, Tsolakyan received the offer to take up the job personally from Nikol Pashinyan.
Tsolakyan was the only parliament member from HHK who voted for the candidacy of Nikol Pashinyan in a May 1 vote when he was backed by only 45 members of the 105-seat National Assembly on his bid to succeed Serzh Sargsyan as premier. Shortly after that Tsolakyan left HHK. Pashinyan was eventually elected as prime minister in the second vote on May 8.-0-
