Iskandaryan: Armenia-EU agreement signing in Riga very likely
YEREVAN, April 1. /ARKA/. Alexander Iskandaryan, a political analyst and the director of the Caucasus Institute, thinks Armenia and the European Union are very likely to sign an agreement in May in Riga.

He is quoted by Novosti-Armenia as saying that it doesn't mean the document will be signed for sure, but it may happen.

«The document is quite serious, it will fix relations with the European Union,» Iskandaryan said. «It will not be called association agreement, but its essence will be the same, though without an economic component.»

In his words, there is still plenty to do – it is necessary to solve some technical problems.

«Besides, he said, the matter has to be discussed with Russia, but as far as I know the process is under way now, and whatever happens in May in Riga, relations with European Union will continue and we have our legislative bar with them set high,» the political analyst said.

Iskandaryan said the European Union is Armenia's biggest trade partner, and high-level political relations and bilateral relations with the EU will be maintained.

Earlier, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said Armenia and the European Union intend to sign a cooperation agreement at a summit that will be held in Riga on May 21 and 22 as part of EU Eastern Partnership Program, in which Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus are involved. ---0-----
