Lavrov accuses Armenia's leadership of deliberately ruins relations with Russia
YEREVAN, March 29. /ARKA/. The situation in Armenia-Russia relations does not inspire optimism due to the position of the Armenian leadership, which deliberately ruins relations with the Russian Federation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with ‘Izvestia’ daily on Thursday.
"I have already had to comment on the current situation in Armenia, it certainly does not inspire optimism. The Armenian leadership, to put it bluntly, under far-fetched pretexts, twisting the history of the last three to three and a half years is deliberately pursuing a course of collapsing relations with the Russian Federation," he said.
According to Lavrov, this course of Yerevan is manifested in the denigration of Russian servicemen serving at the 102nd military base in Gyumri, Russian border guards, as well as the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) as a whole.
The Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan stated in early March that Armenia's purchase of military equipment from Russia slashed from 96% to less than 10%, and after the Russian Federation failed to supply the weapons for which Armenia had paid in advance ($250 million contract), Armenia started looking for new partners to ensure its security.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted on March 12 that Russia's statements that Armenia's sovereign territory is a "red line" for it remain at the level of words. In addition, Yerevan notified Moscow in writing that Russian border guards at the Zvartnots airport will cease working from August 1, 2024. -0-
