Minsk offers to mediate in Karabakh peace talks

Belarus’ minister of foreign affairs Vladimir Makey has offered to mediate in the Karabakh peace process.
YEREVAN, March 13. /ARKA/. Belarus’ minister of foreign affairs Vladimir Makey has offered to mediate in the Karabakh peace process.
Today the peace process is dealt with by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chaired by Russia, the US and France.
“We are ready to contribute to it, like we did in the case of the Ukrainian crisis”, the head of Belarusian foreign ministry said at his meeting in Minsk on Thursday, with the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Pierre Andrier (France), Igor Popov (Russia), James Warlick (USA) and the Personal Representative to OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andjey Kasprshik, Novosti-Armenia reported referring to RIA Novosti.
Makey said Minsk supports the efforts made by the OSCE in developing regional stability and seeking peaceful settlements for the existing conflicts.
Makey also agreed with the co-chairs that the priority is to reduce the tense on the line of contact to prevent new casualties, which is important also for creating a basis for future high-level meeting.
The Belarusian foreign minister welcomed the intensified meetings between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan under auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group.
The head of the foreign ministry said Belarus has close friendly relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, at the leaders’ level in particular. This, according to Makey, could be useful for the advancement of the peace process.
Makey confirmed Minsk’s willingness to host the peace conference on Nagorno-Karabakh mentioned in the OSCE resolutions.—0--
