Neither party wins majority in Yerevan Council of Elders election

After counting 93% of the ballots from all 475 polling stations Armenia's Central Election Commission (CEC) said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party has won 32.76% (70,718 votes) in the elections to the Yerevan Council of Elders (municipal assembly).

YEREVAN, September 18. /ARKA/. After counting 93% of the ballots from all 475 polling stations Armenia's Central Election Commission (CEC) said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party has won 32.76% (70,718 votes) in the elections to the Yerevan Council of Elders (municipal assembly).

Former mayor Hayk Marutyan's National Progress is second with 18.89% (40,776 votes). The Mother Armenia bloc is third with 15.39% (33,220 votes), Hanrapetutyun party is fourth with 11.24% (24,252 votes) and Public Voice party is 5th with 9.66% (20.849 votes).

The remaining 9 parties running in the elections did not receive significant electoral support and have not yet entered the representative body of the capital. The voter turnout was 28.46%, according to the CEC. To nominate a candidate for the post of mayor a party or a bloc should win 50+ votes. -0-
