Pashinyan: Implementation of the TRIPP project directly meets Iran's interests
YEREVAN, July 9. /ARKA/. The implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project directly meets Iran's interests, stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"Armenia's trade and economic relations with Iran will significantly expand, and Iran's opportunities will also increase significantly," Pashinyan said at a briefing on Thursday.

According to him, there is "no conspiracy" in the TRIPP project.

"Armenia and the region must be unblocked. Trains and cars must operate, electricity transit must be ensured. Possibly, gas and oil pipelines too. There is no concern about any of this. We are transparent about this and are ready to answer any questions. We simply need to understand what the concerns are, and they must be dispelled," the Prime Minister said.

Pashinyan stated that Armenia will work with Iran, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the EU, Central Asian countries, and China on this issue.

"This is a global project, its value and significance are gradually increasing, and we want to begin its implementation as soon as possible. The American side is also interested in this. It is necessary to ensure proper procedures so that the first ground work can begin at least this fall. Incidentally, the implementation of the TRIPP project will indirectly open a railway from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea," Pashinyan emphasized.

The day before, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgolami called on Armenia to consider the potential risks of the TRIPP project for Iran. According to him, Armenia needs a mechanism that will allow for unblocking communications while simultaneously managing the risks for Iran.

About the TRIPP Project

On June 4, the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced the signing of a framework agreement between Armenia and the United States on TRIPP, initialed on May 26 during the US Secretary of State's visit to Yerevan.

A day earlier, the Board of Directors of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) approved the creation of TRIPP Development Company, a joint venture between the United States and Armenia. The project is part of DFC's $2.5 billion package of new strategic investments.

TRIPP Development Company is intended to promote trade, transport, and economic development in the Caucasus region, as well as expand international, interstate, and domestic transportation connectivity.

Armenian authorities previously stated that TRIPP Development Company would receive an initial 49-year right to implement the project. The plan is to offer the United States a 74% stake in the joint venture, with Armenia retaining 26%. If the agreement is extended for another 50 years, the shareholding ratio is expected to change.
