Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his wife Anna Hakobyan visited today the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in the capital Yerevan to commemorate the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

YEREVAN, April 24 /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his wife Anna Hakobyan visited today the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in the capital Yerevan to commemorate the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Armenians across the world commemorate today the victims of the  Genocide, committed in the Ottoman Empire. The head of government laid a wreath at the Memorial Complex and flowers to the Eternal Flame.

Armenian Prime Minister was accompanied by President Armen Sarkissian, his wife Nune Sarkissian, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, parliament speaker Ararat Mirzoyan, head of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan, parliament members, deputy prime ministers, ministers, the head of the Armenian Police and other dignitaries. Catholicos Karekin II served the liturgy at the Eternal Flame.

The Armenian Genocide is the first genocide of the 20th century.  According to Armenian and many other historians, up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed starting in 1915 in a systematic campaign by the government of Turkey.  Turkey has been denying it for decades. 

The Armenian genocide has been recognized by dozens of countries.  The first was Uruguay that did so in 1965. Other nations are Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, 49 U.S. states, except for the State of Mississippi.  It has been recognized also by the Vatican, the European Parliament, the World Council of Churches and other international organizations. -0---
