Yerevan may be left at a broken trough if its believes EU promises- Russian Foreign Ministry
YEREVAN, March 29. /ARKA/. Armenia may be left at a broken trough if it believes empty promises of the European Union about access to the common European market and decides to break ties with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) for the sake of it, Russian Foreign Ministry told Tass news agency, commenting on the report of the Friends of Armenia Network on deepening EU-Yerevan relations, prepared under the leadership of former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
"According to the report, Yerevan should withdraw from the EEU, in which Armenia, by the way, is the main beneficiary. At the same time, it says nothing about when and under what conditions Armenians will be able to get access to the EU common market. It may happen that, following the empty promises of the European Union, the residents of the country will be left at a broken trough," the ministry argued.
"it is impossible to escape the feeling that the European Union perceives Armenia exclusively as a source of resources and profit for Europe. At the same time, they consider it normal that the interests and priorities of the country are determined from Brussels," the ministry added.
Russia has intensified accusations of Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan ahead of his meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, slated for April 5 in Brussels.
Moscow claims that Pashinyan’s administration is systematically destroying Russian-Armenian ties. Pashinyan and his team say they have to diversify Armenia’s traditional foreign policy because of Russia’s failure to honor its security commitments to Armenia following Azerbaijan’s occupation parts of sovereign Armenian territory in 2021 and 2023 -0-
