YEREVAN, May 27. /ARKA/. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the Armenian Foreign Ministry has received notification from Russia regarding the possible denunciation of the agreement on gas, oil products, and diamond supplies if Yerevan joins the European Union.

Earlier, Sona Harutyunyan, press secretary for the Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, told the ARKA news agency that the ministry had not received a letter from Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev on this issue.

"The Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure has not yet received any written requests from the Russian Ministry of Energy regarding the possible termination of gas supply agreements," stated Minister David Khudatyan. "These are questions for Armenian interagency cooperation—David Khudatyan can call the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ask to be informed of the documents received," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

She stated that on May 27, 2026, the Russian Embassy in Armenia officially handed over to the Armenian side a letter from Russian Energy Minister S. Tsivilev to the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, informing that if Armenia's accession process to the EU continues, Russia will suspend or unilaterally denounce the agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and Armenia on cooperation in the supply of natural gas, petroleum products, and rough diamonds to Armenia, signed on December 2, 2013.

According to this agreement, Russia permanently abolished export duties on petroleum products, gas, and diamonds to Armenia, marking another step toward the country's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which currently includes Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. The document notes that, under the agreement, Moscow supplies Yerevan with petroleum products and gas in the amounts required for domestic consumption, as determined by indicative balances, while re-export to third countries is prohibited. The document also stipulates that, should the agreement be terminated by either party, Armenia's obligations to pay compensation to Russia or to recognize unpaid amounts as its sovereign debt to the Russian Federation will continue until such time as they are fully fulfilled.
