YEREVAN, July 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s national air carrier Armavia said officially today it was ready to start operating a second direct flight to Syrian Aleppo a week with the support of the government in order to help more ethnic Armenians flee the war-torn country.
In a press release the air company said the cost of tickets would be almost free, as it was years ago during the civil war in Lebanon.
Armavia resumed a regular weekly flight to Syria on July 9 after a more than four-month pause because of worsening security situation in Syria which is home to an estimated 60,000-80,000 Armenians. Syria’s national airline also carries out Aleppo-Yerevan flights on a weekly basis.
The Armenian community in Syria played until recently a significant role in the social, political and cultural life in Syria. -0-
