Armenian army reservist dies due to breach of combat duty rules

YEREVAN, September 14. /ARKA/. The Armenian Defense Ministry said today that a reservist drafted for three-month training assemblies late last month received a fatal gunshot wound due to the violation of the rules of combat duty.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the incident occurred on September 13, at approximately 22:00, at one of the combat posts located in the southeast of Armenia. The reservist was identified as Mkrtich Hovakimyan, born in 1978. The ministry said an investigation was underway to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
The Armenian Defense Ministry said earlier that reservists drafted for training assemblies will enjoy all benefits of military personnel and will keep their civilian jobs and will also be paid for each month of training.
It said that in the course of the planned training drafted reservists may also be involved in combat duty, if necessary.
The first three-month training assembly in Armenia started on August 25 and will last until November 25. -0-
