YEREVAN, October 4. /ARKA/. About 52,000 refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh have been provided with lodging by the government, Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Gnel Sanosyan said today.

He said 72,000 of them have been registered in different marzes (provinces) with the bulk in Kotayk and Ararat marzes, 20,000 and 17,000d people respectively. According to him, the task at the moment is to find out whether their food needs are met.

Sanosyan said also that the provincial governments' expenditures on the needs of the refugees will be compensated by the government.

On September 19, Azerbaijan launched what it called an "anti-terrorist" operation against ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh.

The assault lasted 24 hours and ended with Azerbaijani forces gaining full control of the region for the first time since the 1990s war.

This led to a vast refugee crisis, with tens of thousands of ethnic Armenians fleeing along the narrow mountain road connecting the region to the Republic of Armenia. According to the latest data, 100,600 people have arrived in Armenia from Karabakh.-0-
