Belarus to provide Armenia with one million seedlings to pant forest near lake Sevan

Belarus has pledged to provide Armenia with about 1 million high-quality seedlings in the next several years, which will be planted near Armenia’s largest Lake Sevan, Martun Matevosyan, head of ArmForest state non-profit organization, told a news conference today.

YEREVAN, September 23. / ARKA /. Belarus has pledged to provide Armenia with about 1 million high-quality seedlings in the next several years, which will be planted near Armenia’s largest Lake Sevan, Martun Matevosyan, head of ArmForest state non-profit organization, told a news conference today.
He said the first 100,000 seedlings will arrive in 2014 spring. He stressed that the seedlings will be provided absolutely free.
Matevosyan cited the findings of a study conducted by the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ) in 2011, which say that Armenia has a total of 322,000 hectares of forests or 11.2% of its total territory.
Lake Sevan is one of the largest alpine lakes in Europe and Asia. It is located in the heart of the Armenian plateau at an altitude of 1914 meters. The lake stretches some 70 km from north- west to south –east. Its water surface area is nearly 1,500 square kilometers. The lake is the main source of drinking water in the region . .-0-
