The birth rate in Armenia dropped by 7.4% in January-May 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, the National Statistical Committee said.
YEREVAN, July 7. /ARKA/. The birth rate in Armenia dropped by 7.4% in January-May 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, the National Statistical Committee said.
The decline in the birth rate has been recorded in Armenia since January last year. According to official numbers, 12,096 babies were born during the reporting period, while in the first five months of 2024 there were 13,067 newborns.
At the same time, 162 cases of stillbirths were registered during the specified period, which is 15.2% less than in the same period of 2024.
In total, 11,123 people died in the country in January-May 2025, which is 0.3% less than in the same period of 2024.
Thus, the vitality index—the ratio of births to deaths—in January-May of this year was 108.7% compared to 117.1% for the same period last year.-0-
