The Office of Armenia’s Prosecutor General announced today that a criminal case has been opened into an abuse of power by former Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan, who held the post in 2016-2018.

YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. The Office of Armenia’s Prosecutor General announced today that a criminal case has been opened into an abuse of power by former Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan, who held the post in 2016-2018.

The case was initiated over violation of the procedure set for allocation of apartments to career army personnel in an apartment building in Yerevan in January 2018.

The distribution of apartments built for defense ministry is decided by a housing commission of the ministry. However, then defense minister ordered to provide 29 of the 71 apartments in the building to people who were down in the list. Moreover, three apartments were provided to persons not related to the army at all.

Based on the evidence obtained, the General Prosecutor's Office initiated criminal proceedings against the ex-minister and brought charges against him. At the same time, it asked a court to allow former minister’s arrest. -0-
