Fifteen customs officers charged in Armenia with bribe-taking

YEREVAN, January 25. /ARKA/. Thirteen customs officers of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee have been arrested and three others have been ordered not to leave the country pending investigations into a string of bribe-taking cases, the National Security Service (NSS) said today.
According to NSS press service, in exchange for bribes, including in large amounts, the customs officers would not register various violations committed by customs mediators and carriers during the period from November 2022 to January 11, 2023.
NSS said a high-ranking official of the State Revenue Committee failed to report violations committed by a subordinate in return for a bribe.
The charges were backed by evidence obtained during more than three dozen searches. Law-enforcers found also illegally stored firearms.
The NSS said criminal proceedings were initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia against 15 customs officers.-0-
