YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/. The infant death rate in Armenia went down in 2016, Sergey Khachatryan, deputy healthcare minister, told journalists on Friday.
“As many as 325 babies under one year have died over 11 months of 2016 against 336 over the same period a year before,” he said. “The same was going on with kids under five years – 376 have died over the mentioned period against 398 in 2015.”
In his words, positive progress is also seen in prevention of selective abortions.
The ratio of newborn boys to girls is 108 to 100, while in 2014 it was recorded at 115 to 100 and in 2015 at 113 to 100.
This means that this indicator has come close to the norm.
“Over the first 11 months of 2016, 37 462 babies have been born in Armenia – by 1000 less than at the same period a year earlier,” Khachatryan said.
He also said that 237 children with one parent have received health resort treatment. --0----
