YEREVAN, October 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian government approved on Thursday procurement of services from the Italian company Systematica without announcing a tender.

The Italian company has been chosen to develop the transportation system of the Academic City, which the government plans to build in a Yerevan outskirt. Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Zhanna Andreasyan noted that the ministry will develop a "master plan" for the the Italian company to build the system. Under the contract, the company must submit 4 projects for the future transport system within 8 months.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that there will be no traffic on the territory of the Academic City at all or it will be limited.

'It is for this purpose that a ring road will be built around the Academic City. At the same time, it is also necessary to think about how to provide access to the city from railway stations, bus terminals as well as airports.' Pashinyan said.

According to the government plan, the Academic City is to house all the universities and research institutes of Armenia. It is being developed by the German company gmp International GmbH Architects and Engineers.

The main site for the construction will be between the 17th quarter on the northwestern outskirts of Yerevan and the village of Sasunik in the Aragatsotn region.

The 580-hectare area with modern "green" technologies is to accommodate 8 state and 8 international/private universities, about 44 thousand teachers, scientists and students from Armenia and abroad.

According to the schedule, design work will begin this year, phased construction will begin in 2025, and the first students will be welcomed in 2030. -0-
