YEREVAN, November 4. /ARKA/. The first criminal cases on the confiscation of illegally acquired assets can be expected no earlier than in 2021, Armenian Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan told reporters on Wednesday.
In connection with the martial law introduced in the country, many residents of Armenia made an appeal to promptly confiscate all illegally acquired assets, sell them and channel the funds to the needs of the army.
“In September 2020, the law came into force in full and the first claim, if there are no exceptional cases, can be expected in 2021,” Badasyan said.
He noted that a special subdivision has been created in the General Prosecutor's Office, which is working in this direction.
The minister noted that no matter how the authorities tried to speed up the process, there are legal procedures, research, substantiated evidence that will be presented to the court.
“Work in this direction is underway, although the martial law may slow down the process a little,” Badasyan said.
On April 16, 2020, the National Assembly of Armenia adopted a package of amendments to the law "On confiscation of property of illegal origin" and related laws, which allow the confiscation of property, the acquisition of which is not justified by legal sources of income. On May 11, President Armen Sarkissian signed the changes into the law. -0-
