More than 25,000 people died in Armenia in 2024, an increase of 5.2%

YEREVAN, February 5. /ARKA/. In Armenia, 25,576 people died in 2024, which is 5.2% more than in 2023, according to data published by the National Statistical Committee.
More than half of the deaths (53.1% or 13,581 people) were caused by diseases of the circulatory system, marking a 4.8% increase compared to 2023.
Neoplasms were the second leading cause of death (20.7% or 5,291 people, an increase of 3.8%). Other causes of death included respiratory diseases (9.2% or 2,365 people, an increase of 13.5%), diseases of the digestive system (5.2% or 1,328 people, an increase of 12%), external causes of death and injury (4.1% or 1,048 people, a decrease of 2.7%), diseases of the endocrine system (1.7% or 4,445 people, an increase of 3.2%), and infectious diseases (1% or 245 people, an increase of 67.8%).
In 2024, 209 cases of infant deaths under 1 year old were recorded, which represents a 13.6% decrease compared to 2023. Additionally, 248 deaths occurred among children aged 0-4 years (a 13.3% decrease), and 39 deaths among children aged 1-4 years (an 11.4% decrease).
Last year, 179 people committed suicide (compared to 198 in 2023), of whom 44 were women and 135 were men. The highest number of suicides occurred among people aged 35-60 (117 people). Among those who committed suicide, the largest group was unemployed individuals (27.9%), followed by pensioners (24.6%), employed people (7.3%), and students or pupils (2.8%).
