Municipality explains why intervals between bus arrivals in Yerevan become much longer

YEREVAN, July 21, /ARKA/. The Yerevan Municipality apologized today to residents of Yerevan many of whom complain that the time span between bus arrivals has become much longer.

Taron Gevorgyan, a deputy spokesman for the municipality, told Armenpress that the problem is caused by the fact that many bus drivers are on vacations. Another reason behind the problem is the lack of some spare parts for old buses, he said.

"The bus drivers who work 12-14 hours a day take several days off a year. During the summer months, passenger traffic tends to decrease somewhat, and this is the only period when we can provide them with their vacations," Gevorgyan explained.

He said hiring new bus drivers who need to have D-category driving licenses is a problem. The municipality is trying to solve the problem by increasing intervals between bus arrivals.

"One bus may come at 15-minute intervals, another one at 25-minute intervals. We are trying to ensure a balance between the intervals. But it also depends on street congestion," Gevorgyan said, adding that the problem is temporary.

"We apologize to our citizens. I think the problem will be solved in a short time, and we will return to normal operations within our capabilities," said the municipality.-0-
