YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Statistical Committee (NSC) has published a list of the most popular names given to newborns in 2022.

When it comes to the most popular baby girl names, the top spots have been pretty steady for the past several years with Narè topping the list.

One of the most popular baby boy’s names is David. Some 702 baby girls were named Narè last year and 1,255 baby boys were named David.

The list of the top five most popular names given to baby girls includes Arpi (544), Maria (522), Manè (459) and Lucy (459).

The most popular male names are Narek (969), Hayk (612), Monte (574) and Tigran (544). Short forms of male names are often - Alex (390, the tenth most popular name) and Max (98).

Other popular foreign male names are Mark (506), Daniel (444), Artur (385), Leo (384), Robert (382), Alen (245), Erik (171), Rafael (110), Alexander (105), Henry (96) and Albert (86). The least popular male names are Adam (75) and Ruben (84).

As for foreign female names, one of the most popular is Marie (393, 6th place), as well as Angelina (352), followed by Eva (321), Sophie (247), Ariana (238), Mila (233), Adriana (232), Helen (228), Yana (201), Emily (197), Amelia (192), Sarah (162), Arina (161), Leah (158), Natalie (140), Victoria (112), Monica (107) and Milana (91). 

The least popular names were Malena (83), Lina (89) and Ruzanna (89).

According to official statistics, 36,353 babies were born in Armenia last year - 19,195 boys and 17,158 girls.

The permanent population of the country as of October 13, 2022 stood at 2,928,914. -0-
