Russian embassy in Armenia mourns the death of Armenian family in Gyumri

The Russian Embassy in Armenia mourns together with the Armenian people for the six-member family killed in the town of Gyumri reportedly by a soldier from the Russian military base deployed in the town, the embassy said in a statement today.

Earlier today Armenian law-enforcement bodies said a Russian soldier, Valery Permyakov from the Russian military base is suspected of killing a couple, their son and daughter-in-law, a 2-year-old granddaughter, and an unmarried daughter. They all were found shot dead in their house on January 12. The couple's six-month-old grandson was hospitalized in a grave condition. The victims were all shot with an AK-47.
"We are shocked by this terrible tragedy in Gyumri. We grieve together with the Armenian people and express our condolences to the families and friends of the victims,' the statement said.
"The perpetrator of this horrible crime must be punished with all the severity of the law. At present, Armenian and Russian authorities are investigating the crime. The investigation teams are coordinating their efforts in full compliance with the agreement on the terms of the deployment of the 102nd military base on the territory of the republic ", the embassy said.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan convened earlier today an emergency meeting with heads of law enforcement agencies in connection with a tragedy in the city of Gyumri. Sargsyan’s press service said the president stressed the importance of finding out all the circumstances of the tragedy as soon as possible, arresting the perpetrator and bringing him to justice with all the severity of the law.-0-
