To overcome poverty in Armenia, additionally 63.2 billion drams ($130 million) or 1.2% of GDP are needed, according to a report by the National Statistical Service (NSS) "Poverty and Social Panorama of Armenia".

YEREVAN, December 6. /ARKA/. To overcome poverty in Armenia, additionally 63.2 billion drams ($130 million) or 1.2% of GDP are needed, according to a report by the National Statistical Service (NSS) "Poverty and Social Panorama of Armenia". The report, prepared with the assistance of the World Bank is to assess the social situation and changes in the living standards of Armenian citizens.

In 2016 the poverty rate in Armenia was 29.4%, by 0.4 percentage points less than in 2015. The share of very poor citizens was 9.8%, and that of extremely poor - 1.8%.

To overcome the extreme poverty 1.4 billion drams or 0.03% of GDP is needed in addition to the already allocated funds. In 2016 the government’s social spending was 3.3% higher form the previous year standing at 396 2 billion drams.

According to the ministry of labor and social affairs, at  the end of 2016, some 106,431 families received  family and social benefits. The average monthly allowance for one family was 31,350 drams. Also 12,374  children under the age of two received 18,000 drams a month as allowance. ($ 1 - 484.66 drams) -0-
