State subsidies for chemotherapy to increase significantly - minister

YEREVAN, November 1. /ARKA/. Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death in Armenia, followed by cancer, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said today, speaking at a parliamentary discussion of the government's draft budget for 2025.

According to the minister, the government intends to increase the amount of state subsidies provided to citizens for the treatment of cancer several times.

She said studies show that citizens have to bear a significant portion of the costs, including due to the rising cost of drugs.

According to her, with the introduction of the universal health insurance system, the amount of the subsidy will increase to 2.1 million drams per course of chemotherapy instead of the current 300 thousand drams.

Avanesyan also said that a tender will be announced in 2025 to determine the price at which the ministry will be able to purchase a certain number of non-invasive glucometers for children next year.

Moreover, the minister said that a significant part of the planned budget of the ministry will be directed to the construction of new buildings of medical institutions, since many buildings built even 10-20 years ago do not meet modern requirements.

Avanesyan also announced the planned changes in the current emergency medical care system. In particular, she said that all regional systems will be united into a single national emergency medical service.

She also said that in 2025, refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh will continue to receive a number of medical services free of charge. -0-
