State fee for obtaining citizenship will be raised 50 times, for renouncing citizenship - 4 times
YEREVAN, October 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian government approved a package of legislative changes at a meeting on Thursday, including an increase in the state fee for obtaining and renouncing citizenship of the country. Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan said that the current fee rates were set 30 years ago and have not changed since then.
The proposed changes increase the fee for obtaining citizenship from 1,000 drams to 50,000 drams, and for renouncing citizenship from 25,000 drams to 100,000 drams.
The changes also involve digitalization of citizenship obtaining processes, which, according to the minister, will enhance the quality of services offered. In particular, it is noted that documents must be sent in advance in digital form to the competent authority, after which they will be checked and only after that applicants will be able to join the queue.
According to the minister, preliminary verification of documents is necessary because there have been cases when citizens had false documents, in particular a birth certificate, and they did not know about it.
At the same time, the minister said that the requirement to provide documents for obtaining citizenship in person remains in force for security and personal identification purposes. -0-
