YEREVAN, May 31. /ARKA/. Armenian boxer, Olympic bronze medalist Hovhannes Bachkov (63.5 kg weight category) has become a three-time European champion. In the final Bachkov's rival was France's Lunes Amraoui. The bout ended 5:0.

Ethnic Armenian Artush Gomtsyan from Georgia has become champion in the 60 kg weight category and Artur Bazeyan, a member of the Armenian boxing team, has become vice-champion of the European championship, hosted by the Armenian capital Yerevan from May 22 to May 30.

Bachkov is the third Armenian boxer to win the European championship three times (also in 2017 and 2019). The previous two are Vladimir Yengibaryan (1955, 1957, 1959) and Israel Hakobkokhyan (1985, 1989, 1991).

More than 200 athletes from 39 countries participate in the championship. The total prize fund of the European Championship was 260 thousand US dollars. -0-
