Armenia selects best ten athletes of 2017

YEREVAN, December 25. /ARKA/.  Armenia’s Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs has announced today the 10 best athletes of the outgoing year. Under the regulations which were in effect in previous years, the best athlete of the country was elected by the Federation of Sports Journalists, however, its choices were harshly criticized by the fans.

In 2017, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs decided to apply new regulations, according to which the best ten athletes were to be chosen, instead of one winner. The top ten were selected this year by the SMS voting, and also with the participation of 23 accredited sports journalists.

As a result of the journalists' vote, the wrestler Arthur Aleksanyan took the first place in the TOP-10, the second was the grandmaster Levon Aronian. The captain of the Armenian national football team Henrikh Mkhitaryan and wrestler Maxim Manukyan shared the third and fourth places. In the SMS-voting by fans the leadership was given to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was followed by sambist Grigor Mkhitaryan and Arthur Aleksanyan.
