Armenia wins silver at FIDE Chess Olympiad

YEREVAN, August 9, /ARKA/. The 14th-seeded Uzbekistan team won the gold medal while Armenia and India-2 team won the silver and bronze in the Open section of the 44th Chess Olympiad in Indian Chennai, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) said.
Both Armenia and Uzbekistan scored the same number of points in 11 rounds, but the Uzbek team took the first place on additional indicators.
In the final round on Tuesday, Armenia defeated Spain 2½-1½. Uzbekistan, meanwhile, beat the Netherlands in the final round, while India 2 defeated Germany to take the bronze medal.
Gabriel Sargsyan, Hrant Melkumyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, Manuel Petrosyan and Robert Hovhannisyan played for the Armenian team. Armenian men's chess team won the Chess Olympiad three times in 2006, 2008, and 2012.
The 44th World Chess Olympiad was held from July 29 to August 9 in Chennai, India. -0-
