In addition to Mkhitaryan, the striker of the German Hoffenheim Sarkis Adamyan and the midfielder of the Cypriot AEL Gevorg Ghazaryan were also not called up to the national team for the mentioned two matches.

Commenting on the choice of players in a conversation with the official website of the Football Federation of Armenia, Joaquin Caparros said that naturally, everyone wonders why Henrikh Mkhitaryan's name is not on the list. In his words, Mkhitaryan said that at the moment he could not join the national team, since the last time he entered the field on August 6 (against Sevilla), he is now on vacation, has not trained and is not in the best condition. In his words, Heinrich also said that in this situation he will not be able to show all his abilities and promised to come to camp in October and play with 100% dedication.

Caparros said that he also spoke with Gevorg Ghazaryan. The latter said that he had a muscle injury, and he did not take part in the training process of the team. Sarkis Adamyan also just recovered from an injury and is in the process of rehabilitation. The head coach said that he found it not reasonable to run such a risk of inviting the players to the upcoming training camp.

He said the newcomers were invited, based on their performances. According to him, a lot of matches have been watched both in stadiums and through video footage. In his opinion, all the invited players are currently the best in their position, and they are very competitive.

Caparros said he spoke with each of them and he knows the abilities of each individual player. He said he is in constant contact with the head coach of the Armenia’s youth team (under 21), Antonio Flores, and they have a list of 60 at the moment. In his opinion, the decision of the Armenian Football Federation to include at least two Armenian footballers in the starting line-up will also bear fruit in a very short time. Taking into account all the mentioned circumstances, Caparros thinks that the published list is the most optimal of all options.

The Armenian national team will start their performances in the UEFA Nations League on September 5 with an away match against North Macedonia, and on September 8, Armenian footballers will host the Estonian national. -0-
