YEREVAN, January 12. /ARKA/. The head coach of Armenian football club Ulysses Yerevan, Gagik Simonyan, was arrested by the National Security Service (NSS) on charges of a sweepstake scam. The National Security Service said the fraud was revealed as a result of an investigation.

According to a NSS press release, Gagik Simonyan, Ulysses defender Hayk Hunanyan, the administrator of Ulysses-2 Ara Azaryan and assistant coach Ruben Arushanyan had conspired with a Toto bookmaker office employee to make bets worth USD 1000-3000.

Then, these men secured the desired results of the matches to make illegal revenue, which was later divided among the group’s members and some football players.

The National Security Service said it has opened a criminal case on the grounds of Article 201 of the Criminal Code (bribing participants and organizers of professional sports and commercial entertainment competitions).

Gagik Simonyan and Ara Azaryan were arrested.  Ruben Arushanyan and Hayk Hunanyan were detained. The investigation continues, NSS said.

Yerevan Ulysses won the champion’s title for 2012-2013 season that came as a big surprise. This season the club has been at the bottom, having collected only two points after 15 matches. -0--
