YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. In a message of greetings sent to the delegates of the 11th meeting of  the Armenian General Athletic Union (Homenetmen) in Armenia, president Serzh Sargsyan emphasized that today the Armenian people are more steadfast than ever being also aware of the  challenges they are facing.

"In this symbolic year when all the Armenians together with the progressive mankind commemorate the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, we have proved once again the inflexibility of our will, the determination of our spirit, because those nations win whose struggle is fair and the objective are justified," Sargsyan’s message reads, in particular.

"The heroic struggle for the freedom of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is a brilliant evidence of this. Today, we are more steadfast than ever and are well aware of our tomorrow's tasks which we should implement together by working diligently and shoulder to shoulder,' the president said.

He stressed that for nearly a century the Armenian General Athletic Union has repeatedly proved its boundless devotion to the education of young Armenian people living in different parts of the world in the Armenian spirit and to the preservation of the Armenian identity.

The president expressed confidence that the discussions and decisions of the meeting will contribute significantly to the resolution of national priorities in favor of strengthening the Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora union.

Homenetmen is a pan-Armenian Diaspora organization devoted to sport and scouting. The motto of the organization is "Rise and Raise" (Elevate Yourself and Elevate Others with You). Homenetmen was founded in 1918 in Istanbul.

In 1922, the Homenetmen chapters in Istanbul were forced to close and its leaders dispersed throughout the world. Homenetmen later established various chapters in the Armenian Diaspora including in many cities in the Middle East, Europe and the United States.-0-
