Armenia hosts 24% more visitors in 2017 than in 2016

YEREVAN, February 23. /ARKA/. Karen Karapetyan, Armenian prime minister, met Thursday with hotel business representatives and discussed the hotel industry development prospects with them, the press office of the government reports.
In particular, a project – developed by the Center for Strategic Initiatives was discussed at the meeting.
The project contains proposals for spurring development of tourism, expansion of air communication, attraction of investments to cooperation between the country’s public and private sectors.
The project has been developed with taking into account the international experience.
Karapetya said that Armenia accounted for 24% increase of its visitation rate and 18.7% tourism growth in 2017.
«In January 2018, compared with the same month a year earlier, visitation rate rose 9.8% and February accounted for already 20%,» the premier said. «We took a number of steps in 2017 to make Armenia recognizable as tourist country. We have a special program for 2018.»
The representatives of hotel industry make their remarks and voiced their views on the presented project.
Summarizing the results of the meeting, Karapetyan proposed to conduct more detailed discussions with the Center for Strategic Initiatives and submit the project in its final version to the government. --0---
