Three new beaches to open on Lake Sevan this summer

YEREVAN, January 4. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who visited today the Ministry of Environment, was told that three new public beaches will open on Lake Sevan this summer.

The ministry said the work done to clean the coastal territory of the lake, improve public beaches was presented to the prime minister.

The beach season in Sevan usually opens in late June. In recent years three free public beaches with infrastructure and a number of free services (parking, lockers, showers and playgrounds) have been functioning on the shore of the lake. There is a medical center and a water-rescue service on site.

Lake Sevan is one of the most popular tourist destinations and vacation spots for Armenian citizens, especially in the summer season.

Being the main source of fresh water in the region, it is one of the largest alpine lakes in Europe and Asia, located in the heart of the Armenian highlands at an altitude of 1914 meters. The length of the lake from north-west to south-east is more than 70 km with water surface area of almost 1.5 thousand sq. km.

Twenty-eight rivers flow into it and only one-River Hrazdan- flows out. By 2030 the level of the lake is planned to reach an optimal level of 1,903.5 m above sea level. -0
