Armenian ArCa payment system said it issued 19,074 plastic cards in 2011 May, by 23.1% more than in 2010 May.
YEREVAN, June 15. / ARKA /. Armenian ArCa payment system said it issued 19,074 plastic cards in 2011 May, by 23.1% more than in 2010 May. According to a press release, in 2011 May it issued 9,922 ArCa cards (a 67.4% increase if compared to 2010 May), 5,342 Visa cards (by 13.8% less from a year before) and 3,810 MasterCard cards (by 13% more from 2010 May). In May 2011 there were 634,000 active cards, which could be used to make transactions, by 28% more from a year earlier.
Some 404,994 cards were used to make transactions during the reporting period, up from 332,123 cards that had been used in 2010 May. Of them 234,477 were ArCa cards (12.2% growth), 108,279 were Visa cards (40.5% rise) and 62,238 were MasterCard cards (35.1% rise).
The company also said that the proportion of plastic cards, which were used to make transactions in the overall number of active cards was 64%.
Armenian Card was established in 2000 as a single national payment system by plastic cards. To date, 19 out of 21 commercial banks in Armenia are involved in the ArCa payment system. ArCa issues and handles ArCa Debit, ArCa Classic, ArCa Gold, ArCa Business, ArCa Affinity, ArCa Co-branded, ArCa Platinum, as well as ArCa pension cards.
The company is a full member of the international payment system MasterCard Europe, and also handles processing of VISA and American Express cards. ($ 1 - 375.83 AMD). -0-
