YEREVAN, January 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian National Assembly passed today at the second and final reading amendments to the law on games with prizes, internet games and casinos.
“Under the present law, people at the age below 18 must be denied entry,” said Samvel Farmanyan, an MP from the ruling Republican party of Armenia and one of the authors of the bill.
Only persons who already turned 21 will be allowed to stake on particular pools and bookies, while access to other categories of gambling will be limited to 18.
Farmanyan said the size of the fine imposed on offenders is increased from AMD 100,000 ($207) to AMD 2 million (more than $4,000).
If the casino breaches the law again, it pays up to AMD 5 million (about $10,400), and for the third time the fine size will be increased to AMD 10 million (more than $10,700).
If the casino let a juvenile for the fourth time within one year, it will be stripped of its license, for which once it paid AMD 500 million (more than $1 million).
Speaking about gambling in internet, Farmanyan said that another legislative initiative is being worked out now, which will set requirements with which also foreign bookies will comply – otherwise, their activity in Armenia’s territory will be prohibited.
The parliament also passed at the final reading the bill proposed by YELQ opposition faction on games with prizes, internet games and casinos.
The bill implies permission for entry into casinos only with identification papers to bar teens from gambling.
It is also stipulated in the bill that if a person is recognized impaired by court, heads of casinos must be informed by appropriate judicial officials about that.
It is also planned for the future to allow gambling addicts to prohibit their own entry to casinos and to restrict the sum that can be withdrawn from the credit card accounts in a casino’s territory or adjacent territory.
There are five companies in Armenia engaged in organization of games with prizes, there organizers of internet games and four casinos.
As many as 200 pools are deployed in the country. --0---
