Armenia tightens gambling regulation
YEREVAN, September 17. /ARKA/. Armenia is tightening the gambling regulation, Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan said during a government meeting on Thursday.

The government approved today a set of changes to the gambling regulations, determining among other things the distance bookmakers or betting centers must be far from educational, historical and cultural centers, as well as administrative buildings of local governments and hospitals.

Currently, bookmakers and betting centers are allowed to operate throughout  Armenia, and most of them are located in densely populated residential areas.

Taking this into account, the government proposes that bookmakers and betting centers in the capital Yerevan be 150 meters away from educational, historical and cultural centers, administrative buildings of local governments and  hospitals.

The distance for  the administrative center of the Kotayk region and the administrative boundaries of the Tsaghkadzor community, the administrative center of the Gegharkunik region and the Sevan community, the administrative centers of Ararat, Armavir, Aragatsotn, Lori and Shirak regions is 100 meters; the distance for  the administrative center of Vayots Dzor region and Jermuk community, the administrative center of Syunik region and Meghri community and  the administrative center of Tavush region is 50 meters.

The minister noted that the changes were developed based on the international experience and peculiarities of the country, including the population density. According to him, there are also age restrictions - 17 years and 21 years - for participating in gambling, as well as other mandatory requirements.

"In particular,  such facilities should have additional premises, in particular, a foyer, which is to be separated from the general gambling hall for checking the IDs of people,"  said Janjughazyan.

In addition, the decision stipulates that each gaming room should not exceed an area of 200 square meters. -0-
