Armenian wineries and other processing enterprises have procured  180,000 metric tons of the 245,000 tons harvested by winegrowers, minister of agriculture, Sergo Karapetyan, told a parliament Q&A session today.

YEREVAN, October 7. / ARKA /. Armenian wineries and other processing enterprises have procured  180,000 metric tons of the 245,000 tons harvested by winegrowers, minister of agriculture, Sergo Karapetyan, told a parliament Q&A session today. According to him, 90% of some 50 such enterprises continue the grape purchase.

"Normal working conditions are established with all the companies and we guarantee that the entire crop will be purchased to the last kilogram," Karapetyan said. He said according to the ministry'estimates, the enterprises will buy another 45,000-50,000 tons of grape in the coming days.

The minister said there was panic among winegrowers, caused by weather changes and rains, forcing many to step up the harvesting.

"I want to assure everyone that the procurement season will last until October 25. Farmers should not panic, as all the purchases are made in accordance with the schedule," said Karapetyan.

According to the National Statistical Service, the agricultural production in the first 8 months of 2015 amounted to 522.4 billion drams, having increased by 13.9% if compared to the same period last year.
