YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. Ignorance of the law is one of Armenian consumers’ major problems, Arthur Atoyan, head of the Centre for Protection of Armenian Economic Entities and Consumers’ Rights, said Wednesday at a news conference.
“First off all, consumers themselves should protect their rights, but things are very bad here in Armenia and very often people are not ready to struggle for their legal rights,” he said. “This is the result of many factors – for example, their self-consciousness is not developed enough, but still the key problem is an absolute lack of legal awareness.”
Along with that, he said, very often consumers’ rights are violated by governing agencies, which are designed to protect citizens’ rights.
In his words, the bailiffs’ practice of seizing the only transportation means from economic entities along with levying distress on their accounts in a clear breach of the law has become dangerously commonwealth in the country.
Atoyan added that some 18 car seizure related suits are in Armenian courts now, but no progress is seen in this area.
However, he said, along with such law-breaching agencies, there are also agencies that protect Armenian consumers’ rights.
In his opinion, the state food safety agency is doing its best to shield people from consuming shoddy products. --0---
