YEREVAN, March 27. /ARKA/. Passenger transportation among Armenian provinces may be restricted, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan told reporters on Friday.

He said regular and irregular provincial pass anger transportation services are now available only in five regions - Shirak, Lori, Tavush, Syunik and Kotayk. In other regions they are not available due to lack of passengers.

According to the deputy minister,  all buses which still operate are being disinfected, and the temperature of the drivers is measured, if it is high, the drivers are not allowed to work and are told to see a doctor.

He said the government task force set up to coordinate the 30-day state of emergency is very likely to further restrict passenger transportation among provinces and even ban it altogether. He said these measures will last as  long until the spread of the virus is lowered.

He said that even before the official ban was introduced in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the provincial passenger flow decreased by 80%, and many owners of passenger transportation companies were ready to suspend them on their own.

He said that all measures are aimed at reducing the number of people in public transportation vehicles in order to maintain a safe distance.

He also said despite the decrease in passenger traffic, today four Russian and one Belorussian airlines operate flights to Armenia, but the number of daily transported passengers has dropped from 6,000 to 800 people.

He said also that commuter trains across the country continue to work, except for trans running between Yerevan and the second-regrets town of Gyumri due to a sharp decrease in passenger number. -0-
