Ural Airlines cancels flights to Armenia and some other countries

YEREVAN, April 27. /ARKA/. Russian Ural Airlines has cancelled flights to Armenia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, saying the decision will be in effect until October 29.

An announcement on the company's website says the airline canceled the flights because of the "closure of the European airspace". No other explanations are given, the Russian business daily Kommersant said.

In April, the European Commission put 20 Russian airlines, including Ural Airlines, on the air security blacklist. The decision was taken because the companies' aircraft did not meet "international safety standards.

On February 26, the European Union banned the supply, sale, maintenance, and insurance of European planes in Russia, and also banned their lease.

According to Kommersant, Ural Airlines has re-registered at least 50 of the 54 planes. The carrier has sent some of its employees to the downtime. In March, the passenger traffic of Ural Airlines decreased by 38%. -0-
