YEREVAN, May 25. /ARKA/. The food safety inspection body of Armenia did not allow the export of a batch of strawberries to Russia due to the discovery of quarantine harmful organisms, the agency’s press secretary Anush Harutyunyan told ARKA news agency.

Earlier, opposition MP, member of the “Armenia” bloc Garnik Danielyan said that Armenian truck drivers and entrepreneurs are complaining about the impossibility of exporting strawberries to Russia through the Bagratashen checkpoint. According to him, the cargo was returned after phytosanitary services cited the discovery of an unacceptable substance in the product.

In a commentary for ARKA, Harutyunyan clarified that the decision to refuse export was made by the authorized body - the Food Safety Inspection Authority of Armenia.

“There must be appropriate grounds for an export ban. These products did not leave the country because quarantine harmful organisms were found in them as a result of laboratory testing. Cargo with such violations cannot cross the border,” Harutyunyan noted, without naming the company exporting this batch of strawberries.
