YEREVAN, May 20. /ARKA/. New regulations aimed at clarifying the process of exporting fish and fishery products to EU countries are being established in Armenia.

Deputy Minister of Economy Tatevik Sargsyan, presenting draft amendments to the relevant laws at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, recalled that Armenia officially received permission to export aquatic crops, particularly scaled fish and their products, to EU countries as of April 2025.

According to her, in accordance with European Commission regulations, economic entities exporting fish and fishery products must apply for registration in the European Union's Trade Control and Expert Assessment System (TRACES) if they comply with EU standards.

The draft laws establish the Food Safety Inspectorate as the authorized registration body for this system. To register in the system, a business entity applies to the inspection body, which, if it confirms compliance with the requirements established by EU regulations, registers the business entity's data in the system and submits it to the European Commission for approval.

After the draft laws are approved, a package of draft relevant decisions will be developed and submitted to the Government of the Republic of Armenia for approval, translating the requirements of EU regulations into national legislation.

This will serve as a guarantee for the fulfillment of international obligations regarding the export of fish and fishery products to EU countries.

The draft received a positive opinion from the Commission.
