YEREVAN, June 21, /ARKA/. Armenia is one of the countries that are extremely interested in seeing its northern neighbor-Georgia- as a stable, safe and prospering nation, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbadian said in an interview with an influential Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper.
‘Armenia is interested in a stable, safe and prospering Georgia not only because 70% of Yerevan’s trade is implemented through its territory or because of a strong Armenian community there, but because Armenians and Georgians are tied by centuries-long friendship and good neighborly relations,’ Nalbandian said.
Regarding smaller, but’ sensitive’ problems in Armenian-Georgian relationships, the minister said there are no questions that the countries are unable to solve.
Problems between Armenia and Georgia arise when Georgian border guards move their check points deep into Armenian territory and because of the undecided status of Armenian churches in Georgia.
Georgia and Iran are the only two conduits for Armenia to trade with other countries. Armenia has been blockaded by Turkey and Azerbaijan because of the unsettled Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for two decades.—0—
